Nicole
Marcy, is a nursing student at San Diego State University, an
active member in the California Student Nurses’ Association (CNSA),
and in addition advocates for the nursing profession at every opportunity.
She informs her classmates, on behalf of the California Student Nurses
Association and the National Student Nurses Association, of activities
available to student nurses locally, statewide and nationally. Recently,
Nicole addressed the in-coming students during a New Student Orientation
Day, at which time, she spoke on the on the importance of active
participation in the role of advocate for the nursing profession . She
actively encourages pre-nursing students to seek mentoring opportunities
from student nurses and nurses. Nicole’s awareness of various issues
affecting the nursing profession has been greatly influenced by her six
years of working in a variety of health care delivery systems as a certified
nursing assistant. Her passion for her chosen profession is demonstrated
through her untiring commitment. As a student nurse, professional and
patient care advocate, Nicole advances the nursing profession through
personal involvement and contribution.
Jennifer
Booker enjoys talking to students about the many opportunities
a nursing career offers. As a student at California State University,
School of Nursing, Fresno and working with their Health Science Department,
Jennifer presents both on campus and off campus to at “risk youth”
as well as to students interested in Allied Health. She travels to elementary
and high schools in the Central San Joaquin Valley as a volunteer at least
twice a month. Last year she offered nursing presentations to students
at Fresno High, Tarpey Elementary and California State University, Fresno.
She plans to present at five additional schools before April 2004. She
enjoys providing resources to students interested in the nursing profession
and endeavors to plant the seeds of nursing career opportunities to as
many students as she can to produce a new generation of nurses.
