Nurses can specialize in the same way doctors do in areas such as pediatrics, geriatrics (caring for the elderly), emergency medicine, etc. With advanced education, nurses can become independent clinical specialists like nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists or nurse practitioners.

Nursing is one of the most respected professions in the world. Nursing is expected to grow faster than all other occupations through 2008 (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics). In other words, there will always be jobs for nurses.
