Nursing Scholarship Awarded

Guillermina (Mina) Ibarra is the spring 2004 recipient of the $2,000 scholarship sponsored by NurseWeek and chooseNursing.com.

Ibarra attends Golden West College in Huntington Beach, CA, and will finish her two-year nursing program in December 2004. She begins her 4-week practicum at the end of June in Orange County and by Fall 2005 she hopes to get into a masters program and ultimately teach.

Nursing is a challenging career, but Ibarra looks forward to the challenges it brings. “Being responsible for other people’s lives can be frightening, but it is important to practice safety and keep up with nursing practices,” said Ibarra enthusiastically.

Ibarra, who has dreamed of becoming a nurse since childhood, was inspired by her mother who was a nurse in Mexico. “I loved my mother’s compassion and great love for people and her tenderness and caring she showed her patients,” said Ibarra. She advises others to not give up on their dreams.

Ibarra is very proud that the Board of California Nursing Student Association has asked her to help them start a nominating and elections committee to begin work this summer.

Congratulations Mina!
