Nursing Scholarship Awarded

Cecilia Enid Gonzalez

Congratulations to Cecilia Enid Gonzalez for receiving our Fall 2003 $2,000 scholarship sponsored by NurseWeek and chooseNursing.com. Cecilia attends California State University at Chico and will be a member of the 2004 graduating class.

As a single mother of two working in a factory job, Cecilia was challenged every day to support her family. At 22, Cecilia knew she had to make some changes in her life. She also knew she had a lot of work ahead of her. She started by earning her General Education Diploma. Soon after, she enrolled at Butte Community College. “It was my counselor at Butte, that introduced the possibility of my becoming a nurse.” One of her sons had a prolonged illness and was cared for at UC Davis. “Seeing how my son’s nurses were so dedicated, inspired me. That’s when I made my decision to become a nurse. Now, I see what a difference I can make in people’s lives - helping them when they are in need.”

Currently in her fourth semester, at CSU Chico, Cecilia plans to become a pediatric intensive care nurse. “I find children absolutely amazing and working with children is incredibly satisfying.”

Again, congratulations on your success, we’re pleased to help you realize your dream of being a nurse.
