Nursing Scholarship Awarded

Enter to win a scholarship!
Deadline is April 18, 2003

Congratulations to Elisa Hwang, recipient of the second $2,000 scholarship sponsored by NurseWeek and chooseNursing.com. Elisa attends Biola University and will be in the graduating class of 2003.

Elisa's attraction to nursing began when she was still in high school. She spent many days visiting her father who required a long hospital stay due to serious burn injuries. Elisa realized just how important nurses are to both the patient and to the patient's family. "From the smallest discomfort, like having clean sheets, to the critical medical judgments and treatments, I saw the impact the nurses had on patients. I knew I wanted to become a nurse when I saw that a nurse's care and support made such a difference to the patient and family."

Elisa started nursing school several years ago, took time off to start a family and is returning after seven years. It's been a challenge to organize her time and energy to balance a young daughter, family, work and school. After graduating, Elisa plans to work in a medical-surgical unit. She will graduate with a Public Health Nurse certificate and plans to work with economically challenged communities. "As a patient advocate, I plan to educate the public and increase their awareness regarding health problems and availability of community resources."

Again, congratulations on your success, we're pleased to help you realize your dream of becoming a nurse.
